What isAyurveda?

A Way of Life

If this word is new to you, you are not alone. Ayurveda is a system of healing that originated in India over 5,000 years ago. Translated from Sanskrit, “Ayurveda” means the wisdom of life. The approach to healing is PREVENTATIVE, putting the responsibility of an individual’s health into his own hands. If illness arises, the approach to treatment is natural & holistic, using diet and plant-based medicines to heal. Ayurvedic treatment addresses the root cause of disease as opposed to perhaps treating only the symptoms.

You were guided here, and now the door to Ayurveda has been opened. You can simply use Ayurveda for its healing remedies. Or, it can become your way of life. We will support you either way. Our programs are centered around digestive health. Ayurveda believes all disease starts in the digestive tract and food is your best medicine. We help you create the optimal diet you need to find healing and thrive!

We are Nature

We are not separate from nature, in fact we are nature. When we align ourselves to nature’s rhythms, like rising with the sun, sleeping while the moon is up, and eating foods in season, we flow with nature and feel at our optimum. When we go against the grain of nature, we drain our vital energies, which results in low immunity and eventually disease. Why? The five elements that exist within nature exist within us.

There is a proper balance of space, air, fire, water and earth for every animal, plant, soil, sky and body of water in existence. When the balance is disrupted, the potential for disease is established. We similarly have our own proper balance of the five elements, though no two of us have exactly the same amount of each. When we are out of balance, the conditions get created for disease to manifest.

To live Ayurveda means to be in harmony with yourself emotionally, physically and spiritually. It will teach you how to love and care for yourself deeply. This deep sense of wellbeing creates a solid foundation for longevity, a healthy body, ease in your relationships, and harmony with nature.

The 3 Doshas

Dosha are the three functional energies in nature. Each dosha has a very specific role to play in the body, therefore no single one is superior to the other. Vata’s job is to move, and its related elements are air and ether. Pitta’s job is to transform, and its primary elements are fire and water. Kapha’s job is to hold or to bind, and it’s primary elements are earth and water.

When we are born, our exact doshic distribution is determined. This is what is commonly called our constitution. Most of us have an uneven representation of each dosha, hence why we are unique! As we live and lead our lives, our doshic distribution may shift and therefore not match what we were when we were born. Too much disparity between the two for prolonged periods can lead to the opportunity for disease to manifest. Our best way to stay healthy is to restore our doshas back to balance in accordance with our natural state.
