Meet our owner & founder


Katherine Galligan, EYRT500, Ayurveda Counselor

Katherine is the owner and founder of Yoga Chikitsa, where she shares her passion for using yoga and ayurveda to create a healthy mind, body and lifestyle. Her love for cultivating her students' wellbeing and growth bring great meaning to her life. Her biggest joy in teaching yoga is the people who make it possible.

Katherine’s enthusiasm for what she does is contagious. Her commitment to sharing that with others and her beautiful kind spirit have set the tone for the amazing community Yoga Chikitsa has become.

How It Started

Yoga Chikitsa started out as Beach Mat Yoga with only a few students in the corner of a Tae Kwon Do studio. Katherine taught all the classes herself and quickly outgrew the space, needing a place of her own. Now with a thriving community and a beautiful team of instructors, Yoga Chikitsa has become a place for students to deepen their practice and strive toward a healthier lifestyle.

 

Why Yoga Chikitsa?

The word Chikitsa can be translated as “healing” or “therapy.” At Yoga Chikitsa, we believe that yoga is so much more than a series of poses. 

We believe it is a journey of self improvement that powerfully impacts not just our physical health but our emotional and spiritual well-being as well.

Our desire is that Yoga Chikitsa is a safe haven for you to come exactly as you are and find a moment of peace in a chaotic world. We invite you to join our community and experience for yourself the healing of your body, mind, & spirit through our many offerings.

Yoga Classes

We offer a variety of styles for all levels. We believe yoga is more than a workout. Our teachers guide you through mindful movement, meditation, breath control, and regardless of the class you take, you will leave feeling a bit lighter. Our classes include unique offerings like Wall Yoga, Ashtanga, and Ball Work. Our teachers are passionate, knowledgeable and attentive to your unique needs and will meet you wherever you are in your practice. We have over 25 group classes a week to choose from or if you prefer a more individualized approach, many of our instructors offer private sessions.

Workshops & Events

We offer a variety of workshops throughout the year based on the interests within the community. These include yoga philosophy discussions, gong meditations, arm balance practices, thai treatment, and so much more. Always check back online or through our app for new offerings.

Meditations

We believe that the yoga practice is not limited to the physical. Whether you’re brand new to meditation or are a seasoned practitioner, we believe there is something to be gained for everyone in our meditation classes. We will be adding more to our schedule soon, so be sure to check in frequently.

Teacher Trainings

Our love for yoga runs deep, and we are excited to share that with as many as possible. If you are too, we can help you on that path. At Yoga Chikitsa, we offer full teacher training programs to become 200 or 500 hour certified. We also offer specialized teacher trainings including Yin Yoga, Prenatal Yoga, Chair Yoga, Meditation, & more. Be sure to check online or through our app for upcoming trainings.

 

Ayurveda Offerings

Yoga Chikitsa is not just an exercise facility. We are invested in your overall health and wellness. Explore our wellness programs, guided detox regimens, ayurvedic body therapies, thai treatments, marma therapy and educational courses for clients ready to embark on the journey toward improved health.

Ayurveda Programs

Our owner and founder, Katherine Galligan is a trained Ayurvedic Health Counselor who works with clients individually that either suffer from a health ailment or are simply looking to adopt an Ayurvedic lifestyle. Her programs include a thorough initial consultation to understand her clients’ health, and guidance is provided to each client when deciding the best course of action. Expect to be heard, nurtured and supported with compassion.

Body Treatments

Indulge in something that nurtures both your body and spirit. Our ayurvedic spa-like body treatments incorporate various elements of massage and oil therapies, including Abhyanga, Shirodhara, Marma and Thai treatments.

Herbal Concoctions

To bring a little bit of the spa home, ask about our bath salts, aromatherapy, floral essences, and skin treatments. Or to add to your at-home detox and health regimen, ask about our single herbs, herb blends, spices, or tea blends.

Lectures on Ayurveda

To some, Ayurveda may feel overwhelming and like a whole new language. Implement small easy-to-digest aspects of Ayurveda as you learn at our lectures and events. We believe in a holistic approach to health and wellness and want to share its benefits with as many as are interested. We hope you’ll allow us to be a part of your journey toward a healthier you.
