Robert shouldn’t like yoga. He was raised in a traditional Southern home with plenty of instruction on who he should be and what he should do, but none of that made sense to him and so began a life of self-exploration. His first yoga class at age 15 was little more than an advanced stretching class, but something about it clicked. He continued to attend classes over the next two decades, eventually fully embracing the yogic lifestyle.
Originally trained in hot vinyasa and Ashtanga styles, Robert prefers the healing side of yoga and regularly teaches Yin and restorative yoga classes. Today, he is a spiritual yogi in the direct lineage of Parmahansa Yogananda, and tries to incorporate that philosophy into his daily life, even going so far as to run for US Congress on a vedic, vegan platform endorsed by the Green Party and the Humane Party. His yoga name, as bestowed by a Sihk guru, is Jaiprem Singh, which translates to “victory through love.”
Robert is an RYT500 yoga teacher with a certification in Thai yoga massage. He holds a BA from the Virginia Military Institute and an MBA from Carnegie Mellon University. He is currently completing a PhD in Positive Neuropsychology and working towards certification as an Ayurvedic Counselor.
Trained by Jim Mielke for meditation, Tonya Brueggemeyer and Howard Roth for RYT200, Shannon Caldwell and Teresa Bybee for RYT500 and Thai yoga massage, and Stephen Bison for Yin Yoga.
